The Virginia Military Institute, founded in 1839, is a four-year undergraduate college awarding B.A. and B.S. degrees. VMI is the nation’s first state-supported military college and its academic program is consistently a top ranked public liberal arts college in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
At VMI, and everywhere else in Lexington, the memory Stonewall Jackson is ever-present. From the resting place of his horse Little Sorrell to the parade ground, his words are unforgettable “The Institute will be heard from today.”
